My Story:
WJ is a few lifetimes away, eh? I went to U. of Denver, majored in Philosophy (from my dad--what are you going to do, sit on a hill and think?) Returned to MD and was a counselor with teenagers in a residential placement facility and then a street outreach program. I returned to U. of Denver for a law degree, class of '79. Back to DC to work for several years in the General Counsel's office at the VA (not yet a dept). Probably the most interesting piece I did there was to author the VA's first patients' rights regulations. Do you remember that informed consent wasn't yet in our lexicon? Moved back to CO and worked, as my sister said, as a 'bus lawyer' for the Regional Transportation District. I married John Maclay (love from the end of law school) after 3 years together in April 1983. My world was painfully rocked when John died in July 1983. I shifted gears, took a brief break from, well, perhaps everything. My friends pulled me through. I started working again as a Guardian ad Litem for kids, then as an assistant county attorney in Jefferson County, CO, primarily doing child abuse and neglect cases. I was there until it was time to leave practicing law behind. In the meantime I fell in love again with Bill Rosser, a serial creator of non-profits to work on issues of human rights, social justice, & children's rights. He had custody of his 3 fabulous kids, then 13, 14 and 16. I am crazy lucky to truly have the best of relationships with all 3 and now 6 grandkids. Bill and I married in 1990 and remain married today. Yay! We moved to Oregon 5 yrs ago. We spend time here with our son Jake's family, visit Chicago many times a year to be with our daughter's family, manage to get to NYC to hang with son Joe, and boat and play at our 2nd home on Pender Island in BC, Canada. This year (2019) I moved my mom (now 99 and truly fine) to Oregon, selling the family home in Stratton Woods after 65 years. My sister and brother and his family are here now too. Amazing to have shifted all of us to Oregon. It is a beautiful place to be.
