Virginia Corso

Virginia Corso

Virginia "Gini" Corso passed on January 29, 2020, of complications from diabetes, in Glendale California. She was 68 years young. Gini grew up in Kensington and attended Kensington Junior High before Walter Johnson and then Utica College in upstate New York. While at WJ, she participated in many plays and musicals and later with the Wildwood Summer Theater. Gini spent twenty years working as a bank examiner for the National Credit Union Administration and later moved to southern California and became a businesswoman. Using her  accounting expertise, she established her own business in Glendale called "Bookkeeping and Beyond". Gini will always be remembered for her ready smile and infectious laugh.

Gini was a very good friend at WJ and beyond. In high school, we shared a love of musical theatre. We often hung out together at Unitarian youth group activities (LRY), parties, and coffee houses. We frequently visited each other's homes, becoming part of each other's families. She also became an "adopted" college friend, getting to know my friends from Catholic University and being part of that social circle.

In the summer of 1972, when we were rising seniors in college, I directed "Carnival" for Wildwood Summer Theatre and chose Gini as my assistant director. We were a great team!

After I moved to Massachusetts in the mid-80s, Gini came up to visit several times - and, of course, I would see her when I returned to Bethesda.

After her move to greater LA in 1995, I continued to see her (I have two stepsons who live there). We last visited about a month before her (surprising) passing at Jerry's Deli in Encino. We had a great, leisurely brunch on either New Year's Eve 2019 or New Year's Day 2020. Although she had had some health issues, she didn't appear ill. I only recently found out that she died just weeks after our final visit. It was a shock.

Gini, you were a generous friend for many, many years. Big hug, dear buddy.

I'm sorry to hear of Gini's passing.  I h I remember having great fun with her working on musicals at WJ, and I think also at Wildwood Summer Theater. And at LRY at Cedar Lane Unitarian!  She had a great spirit, and was a generous soul.  I feel privileged to have known her.  Restt in power, Gini!
