I remember sitting in the stands at a basketball game, and one of the refs made a bad call. The crowd erupted with shouts and threats and it was just a tumult. Steve was sitting nearby and he yelled over and over again, "Who cares? Who the f___ cares?" I was oddly impressed that he had instantly put the whole thing in perspective.

We played a lot of football before high school, pickup games, no pads, tackle. It could be very rough. In one game, I tackled him repeatedly behind the line of scrimmage, but he in turn could not seem to bring me down. Yet it was Steve, not me, who went on to play football for WJ.

I admired him for that, and for his sense of humor.

I called him Otis and he was the guy you wanted on your side when you met up with some Rockville boys.

OTIS - I JUST SAW THE ROSE NEXT TO YOUR NAME, BRO'.  YOU WERE ONE OF THE "GREASERS" THAT I REALLY GOT ALONG WITH, AND I'M DAMNED GLAD YOU WERE A FRIEND INSTEAD OF OTHERWISE! EVEN THOUGH IT'S BEEN QUITE SOME TIME SINCE YOU LEFT US, I'M GLAD THAT I CAN SAY GOOD-BYE TO YOU HERE ... BELIEVE IT OR NOT, A LOT OF US HIPPIES WILL MISS YOU!

Wow!  I had no idea.  I just saw the rose also and am so sad.  Even tho I haven't seen or talked to Steve since we use to "hang out" - I miss him.  He was always fun to be with and I loved his sense of humor.  Never took things too seriously.  Miss you Steve.

Steve was beyond cliches and I always thought of him as a really nice guy.  He came over to my house a couple of times but ours was just a friendship.  I am sorry for his passing but pleased he made a lasting impression on so many.
